Advanced Clinical terms (Read code) training course
This course is designed to be delivered in a group format for up to a maximum of 15 delegates. The course makes use of hands-on computer exercises. Each session lasts for three hours and a minimum of two sessions per day must be booked. The usual times would be 9.30 am to 12.30 and 1.30 pm to 4.30.
It is a pre-requisite that delegates have attended the Basic Course at least 8 weeks previously.
Aims:
To review understanding of the Read Code Structure
- To clarify the use of the different TYPES of code (diagnosis/symptom etc)
- To concentrate on improving data quality by correct coding
- To explain how and when to use [] codes
- To explain the needs of coding to maximise QoF points
- To describe ways of checking QoF registers
- To improve use of exception codes
- To comply with the coding requirements of future versions of the QoF
Contents:
- Review of core principles of Read Coding
- Common errors in coding
- Use of [V], [Z] and [D] codes
- Registers, prevalence and POINTS
- Summarising requirements of QoF and beyond!
- How to be more confident and consistent in data recording , particularly in the light of the New GP contract and QOF
- Exception Codes
- Lots of practical exercises
- Any other specific questions raised by delegates
Learning Outcomes:
Delegates will be able:
- To Confirm their understanding of the structure of the codes
- To Choose the codes with increased confidence
- To Understand the implications of selecting correct codes (esp [] codes)
- To Check codes already used and change if required
- To Improve the accuracy and completeness of medical record summarising
- To Validate and improve QoF registers
- To Use exception codes correctly
- To Conform with nGMS Contract code requirements
